While Smyth’s original sketches were famously published in the 1760 Scenographia Americana, this version was engraved by James Roberts specifically for George Henry Millar’s comprehensive geography. It represents the city at a critical juncture in British colonial history, serving as a visual record of Britain’s most vital administrative and military stronghold in North America following the transition from French rule.
