The date might be a reference to the year Henry gained a seat in the Virginia House of Burgesses, following the resignation of William Johnson. It could also be a reference to the 1765 Stamp Act, in which the British Parliament implement taxes upon printed material in the colonies. The newly appointed Henry became famous for his passionate opposition of the Act and he proposed his resolutions on May 30, 1765, only about 10 days after he was sworn into the House of Burgesses. The final result of his response were the Virginia Resolves, a series of resolutions in which the colony of Virginia declared that Parliament could not tax the citizen of Virginia, only governmental bodies in which Virginians themselves elected representatives had such authority.
