  • DESCRIPTION: A 19th-century perspective of the Thomas Viaduct, captured as a steel engraving and handcolored to highlight the details. The Thomas Viaduct spans the Patapsco River and Patapsco Valley between Relay, Maryland, and Elkridge, Maryland, USA. Commissioned by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O), it was built between July 4, 1833, and July 4, 1835, and named for Philip E. Thomas, the company's first president. This view was published in "Meyer's Universum," Hermann Meyer is known for his small but very well-engraved views of various towns and scenes in America.
