• DESCRIPTION: Engraving by Charles Willson Peale after his portrait.<BR><BR> Peale had executed one portrait of Franklin in 1772. In the autumn of 1785, after Franklin's return from the treaty negotiations in Paris, Peale did another from which this print is drawn. It is the first in an intended series of mezzotints drawn from Peale's portrait gallery.
