  • DESCRIPTION: A focused view of this beautiful fort. <br><br> First built by the English in 1727, Fort Oswego played an important role in the French and Indian War and was mostly destroyed by the French and their native American allies after the French victory there in 1756. The British retained possession over the site until 1796 when it was turned over to the United States as a result of Jay's Treaty.
