The Beacon Hill Memorial Column was designed and constructed by Charles Bulfinch between 1790 and 1791 to commemorate Boston's role in the American Revolution. The column originally stood at the summit of Beacon Hill until it was dismantled in July 1811. This engraving was likely published in response to its dismantling.
