John Mix Stanley (1814-1872) was an important painter of Indians and survey artist. This print is based on a sketch he made while accompanying the U. S. Pacific Railroad Expedition & Surveys - 47th & 49th Parallels. This is plate 41 from the General Report whereby the topography and landmarks of this most northern American territory was explored and recorded in anticipation of a transcontinental railroad. These falls (now known as Palouse Falls) lie on the river of the same name in southeastern Washington State. No hand color. 18th-19th Century Subjects, Town Views - United States, Washington State
