  • DESCRIPTION: The facades surrounding the citrus gardens at Versailles.<br><br> Julianus Harduinus Mansart, Eques, et primus Regis Architrctus, Inveint. I.Bb. Nolin Sculptsit 1688. The Orangery sits below the Palace is one of Jules Hardouin-Mansart's crowning achievements, demonstrating his talent as a great architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart (1646 - 1708). French Baroque architect and builder whose major work included the Place des Victoires (1684–1690); Place Vendome (1690); the domed chapel of Les Invalides (1690), and the Grand Trianon of the Palace of Versailles. He was the great-nephew of the famous architect Francois Mansart (1599-1666), from whom he learnt architecture. His monumental work was designed to glorify the reign of Louis XIV of France.
