DESCRIPTION: This handmade Valentine is inscribed in each of its eight segments. Each segment is numbered and has a zig-zag heart cut into the paper -each of the eight hearts are numbered and have additional text. ' 1. I first cast lotts [sic] and then I drew : Kind fortune said it must be you. 2. I drew you out from all the rest : The reason why I loved you best. 3. Sure as the grapes grows on the vine: So sure you are my valentine. 4. The Roses read [sic] the violets blue : The Lillies sweet and so are you. 5. Sure as these charts are linked in one : So is my hart my hand and tongue. 6. So daunt you take these lines amiss : Your humble servant sent you this. 7. But if you do these lines refuse : Pray burn them up and me excuse. 8. But if you do them much disdain : Pray send them back to me again. Zig-Zag hand cut hearts in each segment - 9. But if you do these lines except. 10. A pare [sic] of gloves I shall expect. 11. Remember well what is to pay. 12. A pare [sic] of gloves on easter day. 13. Roses read the leaves are green. 14. The days are past that we have seen. 15. The ring is round it has no end. 16. So is my respect to you my friend. "
