• DESCRIPTION: An unusual version of John Trumbull's Declaration of Independence.

The image is based on Asher B. Durand's engraving after Trumbull's painting. On either side of the image is the text for the Declaration of Independence. Below the main image is a vignette image of Independence Hall as it looked in 1776. Below that is an outline key to the painting of the sitters, or in this case, the signers. Each signer is numbered, which corresponds to facsimile signatures of the forty eight men which are to each side of the lower margin.
It is likely that this print was prepared for the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia.
