DESCRIPTION: This 19th-century view of Boston comes from 'Costume Antico e Moderno …, l’America' by Giulio Ferrario, published in Milan by Antonio Fortunato Stella in 1827 (first edition, second issue). Originally appearing in 143 weekly installments between 1815 and 1826, it was later compiled into 21 volumes in both Italian and French. Smaller editions were also published in Florence, Naples, and Livorno. Engraved by Paolo Fumagalli, this piece draws inspiration from Thomas Pownall's 1757 depiction of Boston. Ferrario, who founded the 'Societa Tipografica de Classici Italiani' and served as director of the Braidense National Library, worked with notable artists like Gallo Gallina, A. Biasioli, and Angelo Monticelli on this significant work. The original blindstamp is located at the bottom right of the image.
