Finlayson Fect.<br><br> The subjects of this work, Edward Shuter, John Beard, and John Dunstall, were all accomplished and established stage presences in their own right. Shuter won renown for his talent with comedic roles and his portrayal of old men characters, Beard was a celebrated tenor who was given the title "Vocal Performer in Extraordinary" and an annual salary of 100 (pounds) by King George III, and Dunstall was similarly known for his comedic roles, portraying the corpulent Father Dominick in Dryden's "The Spanish Friar" and Dromio of Syracuse in Shakespeare's "The Comedy of Errors."<br><br> Love in a Village is a ballad opera in three acts that was composed and arranged by Thomas Arne. The opera was received enthusiastically at its premiere and became one of Arne's more popular operas, enjoying 40 performances in its first season alone. The work's success began a vogue for pastiche opera in England that lasted well into the 19th century.<br><br> The painter Johan Zoffany (1733-1810) was a German neoclassical painter who was active mainly in England, Italy, and India. His works appear in many prominent British collections, including the National Gallery, the Tate Gallery and the Royal Collection, as well as institutions in continental Europe, India, the United States and Australia.

CONDITION: Good condition. Trimmed to image on top and sides. small break in left edge. Very common with mezzotint engravings.
