DESCRIPTION: A rare view of the town of Christiansted on the island of Saint Croix. A numbered key identifies 12 prominent buildings and the Brigantine "Jaegeren". This view was drawn by the noted botanist, surveyor, engineer and general Danish governmental official, Julius Philip Benjamin von Rohr, (1737-1793). This view is taken from Protestant Cay.<br><br> The copper plate was engraved by Johanna Dorothea Sysang, (1729-1791) aka Johanna Dorothea Philippin, the first female engraver based in Leipzig. She was tutored by her father, Johann Christoph Sysang, a master engraver in his own right..
