DESCRIPTION: No publisher, artist, or engraver identified. The British Museum has a note of a possible engraver, “R. Brookshaw.” One of America's most famous Naval heroes. Captain Richard Pearson of the British Naval vessel "Serapis" asked John Paul Jones, "Have you struck?" (which meant asking for quarter and giving up the fight). John Paul Jones reportedly replied, "I have not yet begun to fight." Although historians cannot prove the remark was made, it is part of American Naval history. Jones's ship, the “Bon Homme Richard,” eventually won the battle against the “Serapis.” Another of John Paul Jones' great quotes is “I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast, for I intend to go in harm’s way.”
