  • DESCRIPTION: A finely engraved portrait of George Washington, featuring a detailed sub-title that chronicles key milestones in his life: “Born February 22nd, 1732. Appointed Commander in Chief of the American Army June 15th, 1775. Elected first President of the United States March 4th, 1789. Died 14th Decr. 1799.” Engraved by W. Jackman from a design by W. H. Powell, the image is based on the famous likeness by Gilbert Stuart—though the print erroneously spells his name as “Stewart.”
