  • DESCRIPTION: Rembrandt Peale pinxt. Adam B. Walter sculpt.<br><br> One of the great 19th-century portraits of Washington, often called the "porthole portrait." According to Charles Henry Hart in "Catalogue of the Engraved Portraits of Washington," there are five states of this print and he lists it as a mezzotint although it is a stipple engraving. This impression is the fourth state.
