Seligmann’s ambitious project served as the German edition of George Edwards’ A Natural History of Uncommon Birds and Mark Catesby’s Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands, uniting the work of two of England’s most important 18th-century naturalists, who were both friends and collaborators.

The yellow-breasted greenfinch is a small songbird with a brown conical bill, bright yellow underparts, and vivid yellow wing bars.
