He is shown stern and arrogant, unfurling his political wings and ready for another four years in office.<br><br> This image shows fire consuming the old phoenix and readies it for another life. Feeding the fire are logs with the names, Commerce, United States Constitution, Free Press, Credit, Habeus Corpus, and States Rights.<br><br> John Tenniel (1820-1914) English illustrator, political & graphic cartoonist. Cartoon artist for the British weekly magazine "Punch, or the London Charivari", where he was the chief cartoonist for over 50 years. Best known for his illustrations for Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.
