DESCRIPTION: Engraved and etched portrait of Thomas Wharton, depicted bust-length in profile to the left while gazing directly at the viewer. He wears a long curled wig and formal attire, framed within an ornamental oval adorned with drapery. Below the portrait appears his coat of arms and, in the lower left, the purse of the Great Seal—symbolizing his role as Lord Privy Seal. This print is based on a painting by Sir Godfrey Kneller and was engraved by Jacob Houbraken. Originally issued as an illustration for The Universal Magazine, the print bears the inscription: "Engraved for the Universal Magazine" above the image and "Printed for J. Hinton at the King's Arms in Newgate Street" below.
