Depicted head-and-shoulders, Raphael is shown in the refined style typical of 17th-century engraved portraits of eminent figures, echoing the likeness seen in earlier images of the artist. Created more than 160 years after his death, the portrait reflects the lasting reverence for Raphael’s skill in composition, grace, and harmonious design.
