DESCRIPTION: The game of Bumble Puppy, also known as “Nine-holes” or “Bubble the Justice,” originated in the 17th century. Players rolled balls—often metal or stone—down a sloping board into nine numbered holes, scoring points based on where the balls landed. The name later acquired a slang meaning, referring to whist or bridge played carelessly. Considered an ancestor of bagatelle, the game enjoyed lasting popularity throughout the Georgian period.
