• DESCRIPTION: Born in Winterthur, Switzerland on March 4, 1527, Ludwig Lavater was a Swiss theologian and author associated with the Reformation in Zurich, where he died on July 15, 1586. Hondius created this portrait in 1599 as part of his series Icones virorum nostra patrumque memoria illustrium, published in The Hague.
