Half-length portrait, in uniform, with facsimile signature below title. <br><br> Nathaniel Greene (1742-1786) was an officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He entered the war as a private and quickly rose through the ranks. By the end of the war he was a a major general and was considered one of George Washington's most gifted officers. He is perhaps best noted for his triumphs against Cornwallis in North and South Carolina during 1780 and 1781.
