• DESCRIPTION: A mezzotint portrait of Janet Wedderburn, Lady Erskine, wife of Sir Henry Erskine, 5th Baronet of Alva. The composition is after a portrait by the Scottish painter Allan Ramsay, and earlier versions of the likeness are known dating to about 1759. This impression dates to about 1770, based on the publication line “Printed for Robt. Sayer, No. 53 in Fleet Street.” Robert Sayer acquired the Overton print business in the mid 1760s and began issuing prints under his own name at the Fleet Street address shortly thereafter, with this form of the imprint generally used from about 1766 until the Sayer & Bennett partnership began in 1774.
