DESCRIPTION: This is a satirical image of the famous victory of the U.S.S. Hornet, Captain James Lawrence against the H.M.S Peacock, Captain William Peake. The Hornet is shown as an oversized insect and the Peacock as half bird and half bull. The Hornet has stabbed the bull. The Hornet is saying “Free Trade & Sailors rights you old Rascal!” and the bird/bull is saying “Boo-o-o-o-hoo!!!”. <BR><BR>The battle was fought off the coast of British Guiana on February 13, 1813 and was over quickly. It was a remarkable victory considering that the Peacock had greater firepower with 18 32lb cannons to the Hornet’s 18 24lb.
