DESCRIPTION: Half-length portrait of the Cambridge barrister and Barnwell estate proprietor Jacob Butler (1681–1765), shown in profile to the right. Known locally as the "Old Briton," Butler is depicted wearing a wide-brimmed tricorn hat with his arms at his side and two books resting on a stone ledge to the right.

This rare, unlettered state represents an early, non-commercial lifetime impression pulled by Tyson for private distribution among regional antiquarians. It precedes the formal text additions subsequently engraved by London publishers for its inclusion in John Nichols's Bibliotheca Topographica Britannica (London, 1780). Confirmed institutional impressions of this print are held in the permanent collections of the British Museum and the Royal Collection Trust.
