• DESCRIPTION: Late 18th-century copperplate engraving depicting the prominent and polemical Scottish journalist, reviewer, and historian Gilbert Stuart (1743–1786). Engraved by Hawkins after the original portrait by John Donaldson, this portrait was issued by the prolific London publisher Alexander Hogg from his shop at No. 16 Paternoster Row on March 31, 1787, shortly following Stuart's death.
