  • DESCRIPTION: Santa appears out of the box with a package of mistletoe. Thomas Nast (September 27, 1840 – December 7, 1902) American cartoonist working during the last half of the 19th century. His cartoons were instrumental in the toppling of William Magear Tweed, aka, Boss Tweed of the New York City Tammany Hall machine. Among his notable works were the creation of the modern version of Santa Claus and the image of Uncle Sam. He was also responsible political symbols of the two major United States political parties, the Republican elephant and the Democratic donkey.
