"During an eight-year period beginning in 1848, the four Smith brothers issued a remarkably fine series of large folio city views. A few of these were engraved, but about forty others were lithographed by highly skilled printers in Boston and New York." John Reps. The prints that they produced as a rule were large, imposing, detailed, accurate and quite beautiful. This view of Charleston was noted as being published in London, it is the only one of their views that note a London address. It is likely that they attempted to set up an English branch.
ADDITIONAL INFO: Fall River is about fifty miles south of Boston on the Taunton River. The Indian name for the town was Quequechan which means falling water.
CONDITION: Good condition, save minor rubbing in the upper sky and several tears in the margins, none into the image.
