The steamer Daniel Webster plies the waters of the Fore River at the entrance to Casco Bay. The view is from the shore on Cape Elizabeth, with a great drydock in the foreground. Spectators crowd the shore as a large vessel is readied for launch. On the hill at right is the Observatory on Munjoy’s Hill. Several church steeples and cupolas dot the skyline.
