DESCRIPTION: A rare, early view aquatinted by Carl Fredrik Akrell for the atlas volume accompanying Klinckowstrom's "Bref om de Forente Staterna" (1824). Klinckowstrom was a representative from Sweden who resided in the United States from 1818 to 1820. <br><br> This view shows the Colossus Bridge (also known as the Fairmount Bridge or Upper Ferry), which was a record-setting timber bridge erected across the Schuylkill River near Philadelphia between 1809 and 1812. It burned in 1838. Klinckowstrom also drew fine views of New York and Washington.
