Vignette 1, from the atlas to the journal of Prince Maximilian of Wied, "Reise in das Innere Nord-America in den Jahren 1832 bis 1834," ("Travels in the Interior of North America"), 1839-41. This lovely Boston harbor scene was painted by Bodmer as their party arrived to begin their famous overland trek into the American West.
