• DESCRIPTION: Engraved by J. Gross from a drawing by W.G. Armstrong after a miniature by Isabey. Joshua Barney (1759-1818) was a commodore in the United States Navy. He served in both the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. He organized and commanded the Chesapeake Bay flotilla. He was severely wounded at the Battle of Bladensburg, the historic defense of the national capital.
