• DESCRIPTION: Simon Petit, Peintre, del sculp. Rare stipple engraving by Simon Petit after his own work. With an oval inset portrait of Andre Jacques Garnerin amidst nine lines of text describing his feat. On October 22, 1797, Garnerin became the first man to descend from a balloon by parachute, accomplished after his ascent over the Parc de Monceau in Paris. He also made the first parachute descent over England, landing in Grosvenor Square. His wife was the first professional woman aeronaut.
