Loudon, from The Ladies' Flower Garden of Ornamental Greenhouse Plants (London, 1848 [1850]), features a selection of Erica species—vibrant heathers native to South Africa—several of which are named in honor of notable figures such as William Aiton (Erica Aitoniana), Sir Joseph Banks (Erica Banksiana), and likely others including Jackson and Neill. Among them, Erica ardens stands out for its fiery blossoms. Also depicted are Epacris impressa, the floral emblem of Victoria, Australia, and Styphelia tubiflora, or Red Five-corners, a tubular-flowered species native to eastern Australia.
