Henry Skinner
Henry Skinner (active mid-18th century) was a British artillery officer best known for his published account of General Jeffrey Amherst’s 1759 campaign during the French and Indian War. In November and December of that year, The Universal Magazine printed his Proceedings of the Army under the Command of General Amherst, for the Year 1759, accompanied by an engraved Perspective View of Lake George and Plan of Ticonderoga. These illustrations, attributed to Skinner, depict the British advance on Fort Ticonderoga following the failed attack of the previous year. His work provides both a visual record and a first-hand narrative of the campaign, offering valuable insight into military operations in the Lake George–Lake Champlain corridor. While some references identify him as Henry Skinner, little else is known of his life, and no confirmed birth or death dates have yet been located. Beyond this 1759 publication, there is no firm evidence of further writings or details of his military career.
