EYES WIDE OPEN - PHOTOGRAPHS BY BYERS & DE VREEZE

ABOUT EYES WIDE OPEN - PHOTOGRAPHS BY BYERS & DE VREEZE

“Eyes Wide Open”

Photographs by Bruce Byers and Jessica de Vreeze.

Artists reception:  Thursday, June 13, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Photography is painting with light as a painter uses pigments to create colors, shapes, and images.  Somewhere between time and location, the photographer converts his or her observation into art.  Memories and inspiration are preserved in photographs as a snapshot in time for the future.  While Byers and de Vreeze are telling a story through a lens, they capture moments of everyday lives as they travel the world.  The Old Print Shop Gallery exhibition transcends gender, time, medium and location.  The photographers use Leica cameras and they invite the viewer to be part of the conversation.  The exhibition explores the hue of colors and its impact on street photography.  They start their experiment and go from white to black using black and white film to digital and all colors of the rainbow.

For Bruce Byers, “The photograph becomes visual art when it is seen.”

For Jessica de Vreeze, “Art is an inspiration, it should trigger an emotion.  My mission is to create an image that will bounce its positive energy around and beyond you.”

“To take a photograph is to align the head, the eye and the heart. It’s a way of life.”  Henry Cartier-Bresson
