  • DESCRIPTION: This is one of only 27 rare botanical lithographs composed by Carl George Theodor Kotschy and Johann Joseph Peyritsch, after drawings by Liepoldt and Mettenius. From "Plantes Tinneennes, ou Description de Quelques-Unes des Plantes Recuillies par l'Expedition Tinneenne sur les Bords du Bahr-el-Ghasal et de ses Affluents en Afrique Centrale" by Alexandrine P.F. and John A. Tinne. Lithographed by Gebhard, Pauer, Polzer, Schonhals, Strohmeyer and Wopalensky. <br><br> This fascinating work on central African and Nile River flora contains the botanical findings of a disastrous expedition up the White Nile in 1861-64. Three Dutch women started on the expedition, two perished along the way. <br><br> This lithograph depicts the African horned cucumber.
