Signed lower left “F. S. Cozzens 79.” This watercolor depicts the schooner yachts, "Rambler" and "Wanderer," caught in a squall off of Staten Island. The "Rambler" was owned by William A. Thomas of the New York Yacht Club. The scene depicted occurred on June 15th, 1877, during the annual regatta of the New York Yacht Club. In 1883 Cozzens made a new watercolor of this scene that was made into a chromolithograph and published in "American Yachts, Their Clubs and Races." 18th-19th Century Subjects , Marine , Watercolors, Drawings & Paintings
