• DESCRIPTION: Sanguisorba Officinalis is primarily used as an astringent. Modern studies suggest the plant, as a whole, may be better at treating burns than the elements extracted from it. It's also noted to be good for people suffering eczema. Some of its other uses include a mild pain killer and treatment for diarrhoea and leucorrhoea. Studies made in China also suggest it can be used as a contraceptive.

From Plenck's scarce "Icones Plantarum Medicinalium Secundum Systema Linnaei Digestarum." This work was devoted to the medicinal properties of native European plants. Many had never been illustrated before. The engravings have a freshness and simplicity that charms collectors today.
