DESCRIPTION: "Deutsche Volkstrachten," published in Leipzig between 1870 and 1885, is a vibrant collection of chromolithographs showcasing the traditional costumes of various German regions and cities. Created by Chromolith Jnst. V. Gustav Leutzsch in Gera (Reuss), this work features the colorful attire of areas such as Baden, Bayern, Hannover, Hessen, Schlesien, Sachsen, Württemberg, and some Austrian regions. Based on original drawings from 1864-1870 by Albert Kretschmer (1825-1891), a painter and professor at the Königliche Hoftheater in Berlin, these illustrations capture the essence of mid-19th-century German dress, preserving the rich cultural heritage of the time.
