  • DESCRIPTION: Priscilla Susan Bury, of Liverpool, was the wife of a prominent engineer, Edward Bury. Mrs. Bury had a strong interest in horticulture and was an accomplished artist, especially in the medium of watercolor. In 1831-34, she and Robert Havell, the noted English printer and colorist, published fifty-one of her works. The work was entitled "A Selection of Hexandrian Plants." This series in considered by many to be one of the finest English produced botanical books produced in the 19th century. Robert Havell is best remembered as the engraver, printer and colorist for John James Audubon's Birds of America. The quality that was seen in that series is equally evident in this great work.
