DESCRIPTION: Ch.Ph.invt. H.D.lith; Chez Aubert, gal.vero dodat; Imp.d'Aubert et de Junca gal Colbert. Caricaturana is a series of 100 lithographs, numbered 1-100. They first appeared in Le Charivari between 1836 and 1838. They also were sold in a bound album format with the title "Les Robert Macaires." Each image was printed on heavy wove paper and was offered uncolored for 45 francs and hand colored for 55 francs. <br><br> Text below title reads, "Les mines d’argent, les mines d’or, les mines de diamant ne sont que de la pot-Bouille, de la ratatouille en comparaison de ma houille…. Mais (que vous m’allez dire) tu vends alors les actions un million? Mes actions, Messieurs, je ne les vends pas je les donne pour 200 miserables francs j’en donne deux pour une, je donne une aiguille, un cure-oreille, un passe-lacet et je vous donne encore ma benediction par dessus le marche. En avant la grosse caisse!" <br><br> Translation - "Silver mines, gold mines, diamond mines are only thin gruel and stale rolls in comparison with coal... But even so, (you're going to say), you're selling your shares for a million?... I'm not selling my shares, gentlemen, I'm giving them away for 200 miserable francs, I'm giving two for every one, I'm giving away a needle, an ear-pick, a bodkin, and what's more, I give you my blessing into the bargain. Bring out the big drum!"
