  • DESCRIPTION: Miss Frances “Fanny” Kemble (1759–1822) was a distinguished English actress and a member of the renowned Kemble theatrical family. She was the sister of the famous tragedian John Philip Kemble and the celebrated actress Sarah Siddons. Though less prominent than her siblings on stage, she was admired in fashionable and artistic circles for her poise, beauty, and dramatic lineage. Her likeness was captured by Sir Joshua Reynolds, who frequently painted members of the theatrical world, and this particular portrait was later engraved in mezzotint by John Jones in 1784, reflecting her elegance and the high regard in which she was held in late 18th-century society.
