DESCRIPTION: Lester Berchart Reiff (1877–1948) was an American jockey who gained prominence racing in the United Kingdom in the early 20th century. In 1900, he was the top-earning jockey in Britain, surpassing fellow American riders including Tod Sloan, Danny Maher, Skeets Martin, and his younger brother, John Reiff. Later, both Reiff brothers were implicated in a horse-doping scandal in 1901, which resulted in Lester Reiff’s license being revoked and brought his racing career to an end.
